Alfred von Gutschmid

[English] **Hermann Alfred Freiherr von Gutschmid** (b. 1831 in Loschwitz, d. in 1887 in Tübingen) was a German historian and orientalist. He dealt mainly with the history of the pre-Greek and hellenistic East and the ancient annals and chronology. Even after his death Gutschmid's work lives: In 1888, [Theodor Nöldeke (1836-1930)][3] published, from the estate, the *“Geschichte Irans und seiner Nachbarländer”* (History of Iran and its neighboring countries). In the years 1889-94 [Franz Rühl (1845-1915)][2] published Gutschmid's valuable *“Kleinen Schriften”* (Small works).
